Broncos get on the board in a big way

After months of little to no noise on the recruiting front, Boise State made up for it by landing a big offensive lineman to start off the 2017 class. Mike Young stands at an imposing 6’6” and 335lbs and comes out of Queen Creek in Arizona. Scott Huff is the primary recruiter in Arizona and the state has been good to the Broncos, producing one or two recruits each season, including WR Julian Carter last year.

A few weeks ago, Young stated Boise State was the clear leader in his recruitment and was the one visit he would definitely be making this summer. After thinking it over, he decided he didn’t need to wait any longer to make it official, sending out a tweet this evening. “I am committing to Boise State because of the great coaching staff. Their football program is great and I’m going to get a good education while I’m up there. Being at Boise will lead to good things in my life going forward.”

Young continues the trend of tall athletic offensive linemen that started when Scott Huff became the offensive line coach in 2014. He becomes the tenth OL recruit who is 6’4” or taller in the Harsin era. “I can play anywhere on the line. This year I’ll be playing tackle and guard on my high school team. Boise State says they probably see me as a guard. I told them I can line up anywhere on the line; guard, tackle, even snap the ball. I’m versatile and athletic, and an aggressive mauler who wants to win.”

Mike Young will be able to see Boise and the blue turf for the first time in a few weeks, as he is taking an unofficial visit sometime in June. He also plans to take his official visit during the fall.

He is a two-star recruit according to Rivals and his film can be viewed below. His film shows he is a man among boys on the field. He displays the ability to block on the line of scrimmage as well as the next level on running plays and puts himself in good position when in pass protection. Though tall in stature, he can play lower when he need
